BIDDEFORD, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — Maine State Police are investigating an early Monday morning shooting in Biddeford that left one man dead.
It happened at an apartment on West Cutts Street. Police have identified the victim as 30-year-old Jonathan Methot and they are investigating the case as a homicide.
Police were called to the building — at the end of a dead end street — for a report of a shooting just after 1 a.m. They said there were several people at both apartments on either side of the duplex when Jonathan Methot was shot and killed.
“We’re treating this as a homicide, there hasn’t been an arrest made yet," said Maine State Police Lt. Brian McDonough. "We don’t know all the details or the dynamics that took place inside. I don’t think this was random, I think these people knew each other, there was some history there."
Investigators said it’s a building that was known to police. They’re looking into the possibility the shooting was drug-related.
It was a little more than two years ago when two people were shot and killed a block away on Western Avenue. Investigators said that was drug-related. A man from New York was arrested.
Police said they do their best to keep an eye on this part of the city.
“We’ve got teams that work this area to keep the neighborhood safe. The other incident you’re referring to on Western Avenue is not related to this particular one”, said Biddeford Police Chief Roger Beaupre.
Police said they have located some people they were interested in talking with. They said they are still looking for others.
