SACO, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A man wanted in connection with an armed robbery in Lebanon was arrested Thursday on the Maine Turnpike and was charged with robbery.

Gene Dares had a warrant out for his arrest after he was allegedly involved with an armed robbery on March 20. State Police said he was the getaway driver when Heather Lewis allegedly robbed a victim of $130 at gunpoint. Both Lewis and Bobbi Jeanne Bouthot had already been arrested on warrants resulting from the robbery.

Police received a tip Thursday morning that Dares was likely a passenger in a red Chevrolet Blazer that was traveling north on the Maine Turnpike. State Police, the U.S. Marshal's Service and the MDEA stopped the vehicle in Saco. Dares, who was unarmed, was taken into custody at gunpoint.

He was taken to the York County Jail and is being held on $50,000 bail. Two others in the vehicle at the time of Dares' arrest were not charged.

Police had been searching for him since the incident on March 20. They believed he was residing in the Biddeford area until Thursday's arrest.
