BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A terminal at Bangor International Airport will be renamed in honor of a former airport director who some call the "father of the airport".

On Monday night, the Bangor City Council voted to rename the domestic terminal the "Peter R. D'Errico Passenger Terminal". D'Errico spent more than two decades as Bangor's airport director.

He played a big role in the transition of the airport from a military airfield to a civilian one. He also helped create thousands of jobs, and bring a number of companies to the Bangor area.

D'Errico's daughter said she is beyond excited that her father was given this honor.

"I just remember so many stories about the airport, I actually worked for United Airlines, for a while at the Bangor Airport and people really really looked up to him and I always saw him as my dad, and I never really saw him, in that kind of a view, as a boss, but he ran a pretty tight ship...I've learned a lot from him over the years, and he's just got great stories to tell, he's a brilliant man and I'm very honored that this happened" said Lissa D'Errico.

According to the City of Bangor's website, the renaming will take place in the next few months.
