Driver suffers life-threatening injuries in Bethel crash

BETHEL, Maine — The Oxford County Sheriff's Office is investigating a crash in Bethel where a driver suffered life-threatening injuries. 

Just before 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Oxford County sheriff's deputies and local emergency responders were called to a crash on West Bethel Road, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

An initial investigation revealed 56-year-old Douglass Jones of Newry was driving a black 2024 GMC Sierra pickup truck eastbound on West Bethel Road when the vehicle crossed the center line, struck a guardrail, and left the roadway, traveling roughly 100 feet into the woods. 

The sheriff's office said the truck sustained significant damage, and Jones suffered life-threatening injuries. 

Jones was extricated from the vehicle and brought to Central Maine Medical Center.

The cause of the crash is unknown, according to the sheriff's office. Those with information regarding the crash are asked to contact the Oxford County Sheriff's Office.
