BRUNSWICK, Maine — Fire crews from several towns responded to a house fire in Brunswick Thursday morning.
Shortly before 9 a.m., the Brunswick Fire Department responded to a report of a fully-involved structure fire at 48 Coombs Rd., a news release from the department said.
Fire crews discovered a two-story home "heavily involved in fire" upon arriving at the scene, according to the release.
"Due to high winds and building construction crews had to initially fight the fire from outside," the release said. "Once the bulk of the fire had been contained and building stability was determined limited access was made by crews for overhaul."
No one was home at the time of the fire, but two family dogs were inside and rescued. The fire department said once the homeowners arrived, they took the dogs to a local vet.
Crews were able to get the fire under control by about 10:30 a.m., and the scene was fully clear around 2 p.m.
Fire crews from Topsham, Bath, West Bath, Freeport, Lisbon, Durham, Woolwich Yarmouth, and Phippsburg assisted.
The house is considered a total loss.
"The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brunswick Fire Department and Police Department Fire Investigation Team," the release said.
