BRUNSWICK, Maine — Brunswick police have charged a local man who is accused of hitting a pedestrian with his vehicle Saturday morning, leaving the scene of the crash, then leading police on a brief pursuit before he was taken into custody.
Emergency officials were called around 10:15 a.m. to the McDonald's on Pleasant Street, where a pedestrian was reportedly hit by a vehicle.
Brunswick police said the driver reportedly stopped before officers arrived at the scene but then left the area before they arrived, according to a news release issued by the department.
Police said the suspect was located on Church Street traveling south at a high rate of speed, leading officers on what they described as a "brief pursuit" before he was taken into custody.
"Officers observed the vehicle pull into a driveway, drive across a lawn, and park behind a garage," the release stated.
The suspect, identified as 62-year-old Frederick Snowdon of Brunswick, was arrested and faces several charges:
- Leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident
- Eluding an officer
- Driving to endanger
Snowdon was brought to Cumberland County Jail, where his bail was set at $500 cash and with the condition that he does not operate a motor vehicle.
The pedestrian, whose identity was not released, was brought to Midcoast Hospital to be treated for injuries not considered life-threatening.
Snowdon's first court appearance has been set for Nov. 19.
