BATH, Maine — A child has died after collapsing while playing sports at the Bath Area Family YMCA.
The young child collapsed while playing on the field Tuesday evening, the Bath YMCA said Wednesday in a social media post. Staff immediately began performing CPR, the post stated. Emergency services were called and the child was taken to a hospital.
"We were devastated to learn that, despite the best efforts of our staff and emergency responders, the young child passed away," the Bath YMCA stated.
The Bath YMCA continued, "Our entire Y family is deeply saddened by this situation. Our thoughts and prayers remain with this young child, his family and friends, as well as those who came to his aid."
The Bath Area Family YMCA says it serves 14 communities through its two branches located in Bath and Brunswick.
