STOCKTON SPRINGS, Maine — The driver of a semi-truck has been brought to Eastern Maine Medical Center for treatment following a crash Monday afternoon in Stockton Springs.
Emergency officials were called to the scene after the tractor-trailer collided with a train at an uncontrolled railroad crossing on Muskrat Farm Road.
NEWS CENTER Maine has a reporter on the scene who said officials responded to the crash just before 1 p.m. Officials say they are unsure whether the tractor-trailer was sitting idle or crossing the railroad tracks during the crash, and it is unclear if the driver who crashed on Muskrat Farm Road was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
Chief David Terry of Prospect Fire Department said at the scene that the driver was taken to the hospital, but their condition was unknown. Officials told NEWS CENTER Maine the driver was out of his vehicle and on the ground when Prospect first responders arrived.
Maine Department of Environmental Protection responded at the scene to pump the diesel out of the fuel tanks before towing the truck to prevent any explosion, according to fire engineer Tim Terry.
Approximately 5 to 10 gallons of diesel fuel and an unknown amount of hydraulic fuel spilled from the truck, which was not carrying cargo, according to a NEWS CENTER Maine reporter at the scene.
