Death of woman found at Bangor home ruled a homicide

Police found the woman Wednesday morning at a home on Larkin Street.

BANGOR, Maine — The death of a woman in Bangor has been ruled a homicide, police say.

On Wednesday around 9 a.m., Bangor police were made aware of a possible death on Larkin Street, according to a news release from the police department. 

Police said they found a female dead in the home on Larkin Street. Her coworker reportedly went to her home after she had not arrived at work Wednesday morning.

In an update Thursday evening, Bangor police identified the woman as Virginia Cookson, a 39-year-old Bangor resident. The state medical examiner's office in Augusta determined her manner of death to be a homicide, according to police.

Detectives and evidence technicians are still processing the scene and interviewing witnesses,.

This comes a week after officers responded to an incident reported as a "family fight" at the same home, the Bangor Police Department confirmed.

Cookson’s death remains under investigation.
