PENOBSCOT COUNTY, Maine — Dexter police arrested a man Monday on a felony drug offense, but a Penobscot County Jail correctional officer soon discovered the man provided them with a fake name and was wanted for murder in Pennsylvania.

The Penobscot County Sheriff's Office posted on social media Tuesday that they received a new arrest admission from the Dexter Police Department around 10:30 p.m. Monday. The man was taken into custody by the jail on a felony drug offense.

During the booking process, the correctional officer said they noticed "unusual behavior" from the arrestee, noting he was "evasive." This prompted the officer to further investigate the man's identity, according to the post.

Following an investigation, the correctional officer confirmed the man had given a fake name and date of birth, the sheriff's office said. Once the officer properly identified him as Justice Flenory, 23, of Exeter, Maine, it was confirmed he had a full extradition active warrant for murder out of Pennsylvania, the post stated.

"The correctional officers' attention to detail prevented this individual from potentially being bailed out or housed in a lower security classification, where he could have caused harm to others," the sheriff's office stated in the post.

Officials said Flenory will remain in custody as a fugitive for a Pennsylvania Governor’s warrant for murder, unlawful trafficking in drugs, and aggravated forgery.
