BANGOR, Maine — Human remains were discovered Thursday afternoon in Bangor woods.
A report was made to the Bangor Police Department shortly before 1 p.m. that potential human remains had been found in a wooded area off Texas Avenue, the department said in a news release.
Officers and detectives with the department responded to the area, where they confirmed human remains were found.
"Initial findings do not indicate that there is a criminal element involved in the death of this individual," the release stated.
Police said Friday night detectives and evidence technicians remained at the scene to process it. The Office of Chief Medical Examiner and Maine Warden Service are also assisting at the scene.
The human remains will undergo further examination by the chief medical examiner, according to the release.
No further information was released. The investigation remains ongoing.
