BANGOR, Maine — Two people were brought to the hospital following two separate crashes involving several vehicles on Interstate 95 in Bangor Saturday morning.
Maine State Police troopers responded to the crashes on I-95 northbound near the Stillwater Avenue exit just before 11 a.m., according to a news release from Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss.
A vehicle traveling in the passing lane sped up and crossed into the travel lane to take exit 186, causing a vehicle in the right lane to quickly brake to avoid a collision, Moss said.
A subsequent crash happened involving three vehicles, blocking the northbound passing and travel lanes, according to Moss. The initial crash also caused a second crash involving three more vehicles.
The vehicle that took exit 186 was reportedly not involved in either crash and did not stop.
Moss said two people who were in one of the vehicles involved in the second crash were brought to a hospital with minor injuries.
The crashes remain under investigation.
Traffic was blocked for roughly an hour while crews responded and cleared the scene.
The Maine State Police Northern Field Troop, Bangor Police Department, Bangor Fire Department, Union Street Towing, and Bouchard’s Towing assisted at the scene.
