ENFIELD, Maine — An investigation is underway into a crash involving a train and vehicle Monday afternoon in Enfield.
At about 4:15 p.m., the Penobscot County Regional Communications Center received a report about a crash involving a train and vehicle on Hammett Road in Enfield, the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office said in a social media post.
At the scene, deputies discovered a vehicle had been struck by a train, according to the post.
Deputies said the vehicle reportedly came to a stop a short distance down the train tracks.
"The lone occupant of the car received minor injuries," the post stated. "None of the occupants of the train were injured."
The front end of the vehicle was damaged, and there was only minor damage to the train on one of its sides, the sheriff's office said.
Deputies added that the train did not derail, and none of its cargo was impacted.
"While the cause of the crash is still under investigation, several witnesses and the driver of the car indicated the flashing red lights and train signals were not activated until after the vehicles collided," the post said.
The surrounding area was blocked off for a short amount of time, and there was no risk to the public.
