BANGOR, Maine — A child suffered minor injuries in a rollover crash Monday after a Bangor police officer reportedly struck an oncoming vehicle.

Bangor police said the officer was trying to turn around in the roadway near the intersection of Finson Road and Ohio Street and didn't see an oncoming vehicle, the Bangor Police Department said Monday evening in a news release. The officer reportedly struck the oncoming vehicle, causing it to roll over twice.

The officer was responding to a call for assistance from another Bangor officer, according to police.

A child was brought to a local hospital with minor injuries, police said. The male driver of the vehicle "did not require hospital treatment," and the Bangor police officer wasn't injured.

The Penobscot County Sheriff's Office is investigating and reconstructing the crash.
