Pedestrian dies after being struck by vehicle in Bangor

BANGOR, Maine — A pedestrian was seriously injured and later died after being struck by a vehicle in Bangor Tuesday morning.

Bangor police and fire personnel responded to the scene on Broadway around 6 a.m., according to a release from the police department. When they arrived, they found one person seriously injured, the release stated.

A portion of Broadway between Prompto 10 Minute Oil Change and Governor's Restaurant and Bakery was closed for about two hours Tuesday morning, but the stretch of road has since reopened. Traffic was rerouted through the Broadway Shopping Center while the road was closed.

Bangor detectives and evidence technicians were at the scene reconstructing the crash Tuesday morning, and there were multiple evidence markers on the roadway and sidewalk areas. Police told NEWS CENTER Maine it was not a hit-and-run crash.

Shortly before 5 p.m., Bangor police issued an update that the pedestrian, identified as 56-year-old Allen Emery, has died.

Police said the driver of the vehicle that struck Emery is fully cooperating with detectives.

The incident remains under active investigation.
