BANGOR, Maine — Bangor police responded Tuesday morning to Bangor International Airport after a bomb-sniffing dog alerted officials, but an investigation determined nothing "suspicious or illegal" was found.
Bangor police said they responded to the airport after a dog trained to detect explosives indicated over a piece of luggage at the international section of the terminal around 9 a.m.
Bangor police spokesperson Sgt. Jason McAmbley told NEWS CENTER Maine that the department's Bomb Squad responded to the scene for the investigation.
Bangor airport spokesperson Aimee Thibodeau told NEWS CENTER Maine that there was no disruption to airport operations.
Bangor police initially said the international terminal was closed, but Thibodeau said the terminal was open.
The airport spokesperson also said there was no evacuation or lockdown, and flights were landing and departing since police arrived, though several aircraft have been relocated to different gates.
According to the airport and police, there was no imminent threat to people there.
"We received information this morning that there was a potential security threat, so per our procedures and policies, we have followed all of our security processes just to make sure that everything is at it should be," Thibodeau said.
Emergency crews were seen leaving the scene around noon.
Bangor police Bomb Squad investigated the luggage and determined nothing suspicious or illegal was found.
