BANGOR, Maine — The Bangor School Department has confirmed that a staff member was being investigated after being made aware of what they called a "situation" with that employee.
The details of the situation that sparked the personnel investigation were not shared in the release.
The statement also did not disclose the name of the staff member nor what they were hired to do at the schools or which school or building they worked at within the department.
Ray Phinney, the director of community outreach and safety, said in an email that a personnel investigation had just begun and that it was not completed by Friday afternoon.
"We have committed to a thorough review and will take whatever steps are warranted by what is discovered," Phinney said. "We are not able to share any confidential personnel decisions or actions."
The statement did not specify whether that employee had been placed on leave, but it was referenced as "common" in a "situation such as this" while school officials decide what to do with the information revealed in the investigation.
