Shooting, standoff in Bangor leads to 1 arrest

One person who was found with a gunshot wound was in critical condition as of Wednesday morning, according to Bangor police.

BANGOR, Maine — A man from Mississippi has been charged in connection with a shooting and standoff Tuesday night in Bangor.

Bangor police arrested 30-year-old Martavious Moore of Collins, Mississippi, at a motel on Hogan Road after a shooting was reported near the same location, the department said Wednesday in a press release.

Officials were called to Hogan Road just after 9 p.m. for a report of a person who had been shot. Police said they believe two people got into an altercation in the roadway, and Moore allegedly shot the other person with a handgun.

The person who was shot was taken to a nearby hospital, where they were in critical condition as of Wednesday morning, the release stated. Police have not yet publicly identified them.

Police located the motel room where Moore was staying around 9:30 p.m. and tried to make contact with him but he refused to engage with them, according to the release. The Bangor Police Department then called in its Special Response Team and Negotiators to the scene.

Moore exited the room shortly after 4 a.m. and was taken to the Penobscot County Jail. He has been charged with the following:

  • Elevated aggravated assault (class A felony)
  • Reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon (class C felony)
  • Refusal to submit to arrest (class E)
  • Disorderly conduct (class E)

Police said they found a handgun that is believed to have been used in the shooting, as well as a rifle, in Moore's motel room.

Additional charges are likely as the investigation continues, according to police.
