BANGOR, Maine — Bangor police are investigating a crash involving a car and a pedestrian who was seriously injured.
It happened on Union Street, in the area of Sanford Street and Second Street, at around 6 a.m. Tuesday, according to a press release from the Bangor Police Department.
Police responded after receiving a report of a person who was lying in the road, the press release said. The person was taken to a hospital and is in serious condition.
The driver of the car involved allegedly told officers that the pedestrian stepped off the sidewalk and into the path of the car, according to the press release. They told police they didn't have time to avoid the collision.
Police are looking at video footage from several cameras in the area as part of their investigation.
The driver involved is fully cooperating with the investigation, according to officials. Police are not expected to press any charges.
A NEWS CENTER Maine crew at the scene reported that there was a pool of blood in front of the vehicle involved, as well as damage to the vehicle's windshield.
Union Street was closed during the crash response but reopened around 9:15 a.m.
