BANGOR, Maine — Police are investigating a crash on Broadway that seriously injured a pedestrian Monday night.

It happened around 8 p.m. near Center Street and Earle Avenue, Bangor police said Tuesday in a press release.

Officers responded to a report that a person who was trying to cross the road had been struck by a vehicle and was in the roadway, according to the release.

Police said witnesses told them the car that hit the pedestrian was traveling north on Broadway, and the traffic light at the intersection was green for northbound traffic, police said.

"The pedestrian was not in a crosswalk, was wearing a dark clothing, and had been wearing headphones when they were struck," police said, adding the pedestrian sustained serious injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash has fully cooperated with the investigation, according to police.
