Deadly fire in Bangor under investigation

State fire officials are investigating the fire, and an autopsy will be performed to confirm the identity of the deceased.

BANGOR, Maine — The Maine State Fire Marshal's office is investigating a deadly fire Monday morning in Bangor.

Emergency officials were called to the home at 62 Fairways shortly after 5:20 a.m.

Bangor police and fire crews arrived at the scene and were able to quickly contain the fire, but a person was found dead inside the home, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a news release.

The deceased has tentatively been identified as homeowner Carla Durgin, 84, who was the sole occupant known to be living at the residence, according to state officials. Official identification would be determined following an autopsy by the state medical examiner's office.

The state fire marshal's office is investigating the case, as is protocol for fatal fires.

Bangor police and fire were aided at the scene by the Air National Guard, which was the closest mutual aid department.
