Bangor Community Connector pauses Saturday bus service starting Oct. 5

City officials said the change will begin on Saturday, Oct. 5.

BANGOR, Maine — Bangor's Community Connector is temporarily suspending its Saturday bus service beginning Saturday, Oct. 5 until further notice.

In a news release from the city of Bangor, the change will include both its fixed route and ADA paratransit service. The city also says Route U (Hammond Street) and Route B (Center Street) will return to their regular Monday through Friday service.

City officials cite the change as "necessary from an operational standpoint... [and] will prevent one neighborhood or community from being adversely impacted." Officials noted Saturday service as having the lowest ridership.

"Unfortunately, we find ourselves in a position to make this difficult decision. We understand this change to the bus service will negatively impact some riders and want everyone to know that we did not reach this decision lightly," Assistant City Manager Courtney O’Donnell said in the release. "We are taking active steps in an effort to bring full service back as quickly as possible."

The Community Connector Transit Center will also be closed on Saturdays beginning Oct. 5 until further notice, the release stated. The city said riders should be prepared for possible reduced hours or closures if there are staffing issues, and that there will be notices issued if that is the case.
