BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The main terminal at the Bangor International Airport has a new name. It's been renamed the Peter R. D’Errico Passenger Terminal, in honor of a former airport director.
D'Errico was in charge of the airport from 1970 to 1990. During that time, he oversaw its transition from the Dow Air Force base to a passenger airport.
During a ceremony Wednesday morning, Bangor Mayor Sean Faircloth says D'Errico's work played a big role in contributing to the city's growth.
“Bangor would not be the city it is now without the infrastructure that he led,” he told event attendees.
A new sign was placed outside the terminal with D’Errico’s name on it.
