Bangor man charged with murder of couple found dead in burned-out truck

BANGOR (NEWS CENTER Maine) — A man from Bangor has been charged with murder in connection with the deaths of two people found Thursday afternoon in a burned-out truck.

John De St. Croix, 25, was arrested by detectives Friday and charged with two counts of murder.

According to a press release, 43-year-old Michael Bridges and 36-year-old Desiree York, both of Bangor, were killed in the box truck fire late Wednesday night. The deaths were later ruled by police as a homicide.

Family and friends of the victims' are still in shock. "I feel like crap, we all feel like crap," James Brady said. Brady served time at Penobscot County Jail with Bridges. He says despite his criminal history, Bridges was harmless. "He was a good man, a very good man."

Bridges brother Mark Bridges says everything really hit him Friday morning. "I don't really know how I feel," Bridges said. "I'm still trying to process things."

Bridges explained that he brought his younger brother up from Georgia about a year ago to help him get back on track. However, he recently started struggling with alcoholism again.

Those who knew the couple say they had been in a relationship for a while. "He was so in love with her," Brady said.

Police said the case remains active and De St. Croix may face additional charges.
