WINDHAM, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A covered bridge between Windham and Gorham has been closed indefinitely.
Police said the Babbs Bridge over the Presumpscot River was most likely damaged by a snow plow in a hit-and-run Saturday night around 6:30. The bridge was first built in 1843, and was eventually rebuilt in 1976.
There are detours in place around Covered Bridge Rd. in Windham and Hurricane Rd. in Gorham to divert traffic away from the bridge. The Maine Dept. of Transportation is expected to be on site Monday to inspect the damage.
Anyone with information about the bridge should contact Windham Police.
