Identity of man killed in Waterville homicide released by state officials

State police said the discovery of a man's body at a residence on Cool Street was considered suspicious and was later ruled a homicide. An arrest has been made.

WATERVILLE, Maine — One person has been arrested in connection with a homicide investigation in Waterville, after a man's body was found Sunday.

Waterville police requested aid from the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit on Sunday morning during their investigation of a "potential suspicious death" at a residence on Cool Street, Maine Department of Public Safety officials said Sunday night in a news release.

The case was ruled a homicide by Monday after an autopsy determined the man died from "sharp-force injuries."

On Wednesday, officials said the chief medical examiner's office identified the man as 43-year-old Charles Bellows of Waterville.

Maine State Police detectives investigating the case arrested 41-year-old Thomas Lowrie of Waterville on Sunday. Lowrie was charged with murder and made his initial court appearance Monday afternoon at the Capital Judicial Center in Augusta.

The investigation remains ongoing.
