Detour set up at Route 3 in Augusta as Maine State Police respond to incident

Maine State Police troopers, along with tactical and crisis negotiation teams, responded to a developing incident Tuesday afternoon.

AUGUSTA, Maine — A section of Route 3 in Augusta was closed Tuesday afternoon while state police responded to a developing incident.

Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a news release that state troopers were at the scene of an incident in Augusta just before 3:30 p.m. Tactical and crisis negotiation teams were part of the response.

Details about what that incident involved were not disclosed.

The closure along Route 3 stretched from Churchill Road and Bolton Hill Road, according to Augusta police. Drivers were asked to seek alternate routes and avoid the area.

NEWS CENTER Maine sent a crew to the scene to learn more.

John Honas told NEWS CENTER Maine he was headed to a chiropractic appointment on Route 3 around 2:30 p.m. When he arrived, he was asked to turn around.

"As I pull into the driveway of my chiropractor I saw sheriff's vehicles, Augusta police, state police K9 units, and I was instructed to turn around and that the building is on lockdown and I had to leave," Honas said.

The only chiropractor on the stretch of road is Nadeau Chiropractic and Wellness Center.

This story is developing and will be updated as information becomes available.

Route 3 is currently shut down between Churchill Road and Bolton Hill Road. Please seek an alternate route. We will update this post when the road is back open.
