Police announced Wednesday the identity of a person who was found dead on a Waterville school bus Monday morning.
At about 4:30 a.m. Monday, police received a report about a person "slumped over the steering wheel of a bus" in the parking lot at Waterville Junior High School, the Waterville Police Department said in a news release.
Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered a person dead inside the bus, according to the release.
Classes in the school district were canceled Monday as a result of the incident.
"Detectives concluded that this was an isolated incident and there was no threat to the public," the release stated.
The body was taken to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner and has been identified as 24-year-old Anthony Engelhardt of Naples. An autopsy determined Engelhardt's cause of death as a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.
He had no known connection to the Waterville School Department and recently drove to the city for unknown reasons, the release added.
No additional details were released.
