AUGUSTA, Maine — The Maine State House was evacuated twice Tuesday afternoon after a fire alarm went off, officials say.
Augusta firefighters responded to the call just after 1 p.m.
A NEWS CENTER Maine crew at the scene said six fire vehicles responded. Officials on the scene told NEWS CENTER Maine a sprinkler was leaking water inside.
Around 1:20 p.m., officials cleared everyone to re-enter the building, but the alarm sounded again just 10 minutes later and everyone was evacuated again.
Capitol Chief of Police Matthew Clancy said the two alarm activations happened because of a malfunction with the fire suppression system.
Clancy added technicians are at the State House to assist.
No fires or threats were reported in connection with the evacuations Tuesday afternoon.
