Walmart in Augusta reopens after reported bomb threat

Police said the threat was communicated through a message left at the store Monday afternoon.

AUGUSTA, Maine — An investigation is underway after a bomb threat was reported Monday afternoon at the Walmart in Augusta.

The Augusta Police Department responded to the store for a "terrorizing complaint," around 12:30 p.m. Officials said the threat was communicated through a message left at the store Monday afternoon, according to a news release from the department.

Walmart staff met with police officers and decided to evacuate the store. Augusta police and Walmart staff cleared and checked the store, according to the release.

Law enforcement shared that the store was temporarily closed but has since re-opened.
