Augusta police: Manhunt underway for home invasion suspect pretending to be a cop

AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - - The police in Augusta are searching for a man who forced his way into an apartment claiming to be an officer early Wednesday morning.

Police described the perpetrator as a male subject wearing a black mask and dark hoodie. They said he was carrying a firearm and claiming to be the police.

The officers said, he forced his way into a Northern Avenue apartment but after a struggle with the occupants of the apartment, the suspect fled on foot. .

Police said they do not believe this was a random act. They believe the man was trying to get money and possibly drugs he knew would be at the home.


Patrol Officers along with the Maine State Police and their K-9 attempted to track the suspect but were unable to locate him, said Major Jared Mills.
