Man fatally injured after falling from tree in central Maine

The 35-year-old was reportedly working with a tree service company to remove large oak trees on Fire Road 3 in China. He died at the scene.

CHINA, Maine — A man who was working on a crew hired to help take down large oak trees in China, Maine, died Wednesday after falling out of a tree.

Christopher Thwing, 35, of Athens, was reportedly working with Tip Top Tree Service based in Norridgewock to remove the trees on Fire Road 3 in China.

Deputies with the Kennebec County Sheriff's Office and other emergency officials responded to the scene at about 12:43 p.m. Wednesday, according to a release issued Thursday by the sheriff's office.

China Ambulance Personnel and others at the scene performed CPR and other methods to attempt to revive Thwing, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, the release stated.

"Preliminary investigation shows that Thwing was working on taking a top section of a tree down when he cut through the safety line and when the top of the tree came down [it] pulled Thwing out of the tree to the ground," according to the release.

Thwing's body was brought to Plummers Funeral Home.
