PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — A local man has died after the truck he was driving crashed into a building Friday in Presque Isle and rolled over.
Emergency officials were called to the area around 6:30 p.m. following a report of a single-vehicle crash on Cleaves Road.
First responders were able to determine that the driver had left the road, struck a building, then rolled back across the road and into a field, Presque Isle police said in a news release posted Saturday on their Facebook page.
A witness to the crash attempted to provide aid including CPR to the man who had collapsed until emergency officials arrived at the scene and took over the medical care, according to the post.
However, the driver identified as Richard Prue of Presque Isle was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said officials believe Prue may have suffered a "major medical event" that caused him to drive off the roadway and crash into the building.
Presque Isle police were assisted at the scene by Presque Isle Fire and Ambulance, the Aroostook County Sheriff's Office, and the Maine Warden Service. The department also acknowledged the bystander's efforts and offered condolences to Prue's loved ones.
The crash remains under investigation.
