FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — A missing man from Fort Fairfield was found dead about three weeks after a Silver Alert was issued.
Edward Bolstridge, 68, was last seen around 12 p.m. on Aug. 22 in the Presque Isle and Westfield area, the Fort Fairfield Police Department said on social media. A Silver Alert was issued last month, stating Bolstridge was headed north towards Presque Isle driving a 2016 Kia Soul.
Police said Bolstridge suffered from multiple sclerosis and memory issues and that his family was concerned for his safety.
According from an update Monday, Sept. 16, Bolstridge was found, and the Silver Alert was canceled, according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss.
A news release from Fort Fairfield Police Chief Matthew Cummings said the police department was notified by the U.S. Border Patrol that one of their air units had found Bolstridge's Kia Soul off an old logging road in the North Maine Woods.
The Maine Warden Service responded and found Bolstridge dead near his vehicle, Cummings said in the release.
The Maine Wardens Service is now leading the investigation, and the case has been turned over to the state medical examiner's office.
Maine Warden Service ground and air assets, along with the U.S. Border Patrol, Maine Forest Service, and Maine State Police assisted with the search.
