FORT KENT, Maine — A woman from Madawaska was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash in Fort Kent Tuesday morning.
It happened around 7 a.m. on Frenchville Road, Fort Kent police said in a press release.
The driver, Brenda Guerrette, 48, was the only person in the vehicle, according to police. Emergency officials had to remove her from the vehicle before taking her to Northern Maine Medical Center, where she was in critical condition as of Tuesday afternoon, the release stated.
Based on an initial investigation, police said it appeared Guerrette was driving east in a 2024 Jeep Rubicon when the vehicle failed to navigate a curve in the road. The vehicle then went off the road, down an embankment, struck a railroad bed, and rolled over several times before coming to rest, according to police.
Frenchville Road was reduced to one lane of travel during the emergency response.
In addition to Fort Kent police, the Fort Kent Fire Department, Frenchville Fire Department, Ambulance Service Inc., U.S. Border Patrol, and Aroostook County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, according to police.
