Travelers urged to avoid scene of 'active police incident' in Carmel

The Penobscot Regional Communications Center said there is no threat to the public.

CARMEL, Maine — Drivers are being asked to avoid the area of an "active police incident" in Carmel on Monday afternoon. 

According to a Facebook post from the Penobscot Regional Communications Center, there is an active police incident in the area of Main Road and Damascus Road as of 4:30 p.m. There is no threat to the public, the post stated. 

Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area and seek an alternative route. 

A NEWS CENTER Maine reporter at the scene says it is "very active." Roughly 10 police cruisers were seen lined up along the roadway, belonging to Penobscot County sheriff's deputies and Bangor police. Law enforcement was observed surveying a residence and taking photos. 

The Penobscot County Sheriff's Office is expected to release additional information at a later time, according to the post.
