Accused killer of Hampden woman arrested

Maine State Police arrested 55-year-old Philip Clark on Friday

HAMPDEN (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- A man arrested on a murder charge shared a home in Hampden with the woman he's accused of killing.

Maine State Police arrested 55-year-old Philip Clark on Friday, July 13. His home at 557 Kennebec Road is the place where the murder is alleged to have happened. Court documents say Clark and the victim both lived in the building and their apartments were connected by a door to a common hallway.

An arrest warrant was issued for Clark after he didn't appear in court on Thursday for criminal trespassing charges.

The complaint was made by a woman. She filed a restraining order but it was denied.

Members of the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit went to the home the previous night regarding a welfare check that was brought to their attention by the Hampden Police Department. Police say Evidence Response Technicians remained at the home through Friday and their work is expected to continue into Saturday, as well.

Transportation of the woman's body is being arranged to the State Medical Examiner's Office. Through an autopsy on Saturday, the staff there will work with detectives to officially identify the woman and establish her cause of death.

Clark is being held at Penobscot County Jail.
