AUBURN, Maine (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- The city of Auburn named its new police chief Tuesday, but he's been a veteran of the force for 23-years. Chief Jason Moen was sworn in at Auburn Hall in front of a crowd of fellow officers, firefighters and citizens.
"If you would have told me that I would have been a chief someday I would have said, "No, you're crazy. It's been a humbling experience," said Chief Moen.
The ceremony was memorable for Moen, as his son, an active Auburn firefighter, pinned the badge on the city's top cop. "To have my son be able to put my badge on me was just amazing,” said Moen.
A representative from Congressman Bruce Poliquin’s office and City Manager Peter Chricton made remarks.
Moens was previously interim chief, but also held variety of positions within the department, including Patrol Officer, School Resource Officer, Detective, Patrol Sergeant and Lieutenant. Moen is the 22nd Chief for the Auburn Police Department.
