PORTLAND, Maine — "The Wizard of Oz" is one of those movies that transports you through time.
It captures the story of finding your way home and it turns out, for one of the leading ladies, Maine was home. Margaret Hamilton, who played the Wicked Witch of the West, lived on a remote island south of Boothbay Harbor.
It seemed like the perfect setting for a new play about Margaret and the impact she had on the world of theatre. The play is called "My Witch: The Margaret Hamilton Stories."
The tale follows a gentle kindergarten teacher from Cleveland who becomes one of America’s favorite character actresses. John Ahlin is the playwright. He said the idea came from his theory that you can't go more than 48 hours without seeing a reference to "The Wizard of Oz."
"If there’s a movie we all share, that’s the movie," Ahlin said.
