Maine twin sisters make TV debut on music game show

The two were selected to compete on the music game show 'I Can See Your Voice,' which airs weekly. Their performance helped take them to the top.

PORTLAND, Maine — They grew up singing for Grandma around the campfire in Maine.

Years later, twin sisters Ali Butler and Susie Pepper are still blowing people away with their musical talent.

The pair were recently featured on the primetime television music game show "I Can See Your Voice." The competition features real and fake singers lip-syncing to different hits. It's up to the contestant, who's looking to take home $100,000, to figure out who can actually sing. This episode specifically called for twins, and their rendition of Ellie Goulding's "Lights" solidified their spot at the top.

"Any clues they could use they would try to take people away, but it's so hard for us as singers," Butler said. "There were things that we couldn't help doing like flipping the mic from one hand to the other, or like tapping with a beat. There were things that were just ingrained in us and I think it kind of helped us move further along."

This may be the largest stage the pair has sung on together, but the duo is no stranger to sharing their gift with a large audience. Susie is the lead singer of Mixology, a band dedicated to bringing excitement to any party. She also competed on the Miss America stage as "Miss Maine" in 2009. Ali has performed at sporting events and stadiums around the country. She will occasionally join Susie backstage at her performances as well.

They also have their own podcast called "Diaries of a Wedding Singer," where the sisters swap funny and sometimes even embarrassing stories about recent gigs.

"It just got to the point where we would talk to each other for like an hour after every week and we were crying laughing," Pepper said. "Flying back and forth to Maine every weekend to do weddings, I would inevitably have crazy things happen in the airport."

"It wasn't having anything necessarily to do with the bride but like behind-the-scenes stuff," Butler said. "Like, 'I almost fell off the stage and nobody noticed.' Stuff like that."
