CASCO, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- There's a movement across the country to live large in a small space. Several people are choosing to throw away their mansion way of living and moving into spaces less than 1,000 square ft. There are a few in Maine who have even taken it to the extreme.
Bob Hepburn has finished the outside of his home in Casco and is still doing the finishing touches to the interior. It's a home that turns a lot of heads with the inside measuring 192 square feet. It's a small stature that Hepburn was looking for like many others building tiny homes.
"You're sitting there and you can just look around the room and not think where's the next room, but start to think how can I use that in the most effective way," said Hepburn.
Robert Cole and his partner Kelly Casthena decided to join the tiny home movement four years ago when they moved to Appleton from Connecticut. Their self sufficient 500 square foot home has no heating bill because of a wood stove, no electric bill because of solar panels on the roof, and no plumbing because of a compost outhouse. It's not the cost savings that the couple enjoy the most, it's the peacefulness.
"It's relaxing," said Casthena. "There's nothing stressful about it.
