Two weeks of music in Maine, upcoming concerts

PORTLAND, Maine — Summer is here and that means an increase in concerts across the state, especially at Thompson’s Point in Portland. Portland Press Herald music writer Aimsel Ponti joined us in the studio to preview some of the upcoming shows.

SHOW: Paula Cole

WHEN & WHERE: Saturday, June 22 @ Stone Mountain Arts Center, Brownfield.

DETAILS: Paula’s new album “Lo” is among the best things she’s ever done. Songs like “Invisible Armor” and “The Replacements & Dinosaur Jr.” are tremendous PLUS there’s the entire rest of her incredible catalog including the hits “I Don’t Want to Wait” and “Where Have All The Cowboys Gone?” It will be an absolute masterclass in vocals.

SHOW: Magic of Motown

WHEN & WHERE: Sunday, June 23 @ Merrill Auditorium in Portland.

DETAILS: This high-energy homage to the legends of Motown will transport you back in time as you visit the very best of “Hitsville, USA!” The show features a cast of 15 powerhouse vocalists who embody everyone from Diana Ross & The Supremes to Marvin Gaye & The Jackson Five!
