PORTLAND, Maine — When the Old Port Festival came to an end after a long run, it left a void in Portland.
The Resurgam Music and Arts Festival was created to help fill it. The name, by the way, was chosen with care. It’s Latin for "I shall rise again."
The festival will return on Sunday, June 9, for the third time, running from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. by the Ocean Gateway terminal on the waterfront. The Maine Academy of Modern Music (MAMM) will again host the event and provide numerous rock bands made up of MAMM students.
"We have over 30 student bands but we also have some local bands," MAMM Director Jeff Shaw said. "We have hula hoop artists. The children’s museum is bringing their large inflatable whale. [We have] lots of things."
That "lots of things" also include SailMaine, Portland Youth Dance, a storyteller from the Maine Irish Heritage Center, and the nearby Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad.
