Drummer from the band Boston, Jeff Neal, surprises many when they find out he's also a full time history teacher at Windham High School.

WINDHAM, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- It's not uncommon to hear about people balancing two different jobs. There are those occasions, though, when you're surprised by how different the roles are. That is often the case when people find out that drummer with the band Boston is also a history teacher.

Jeff Neal has been drumming with the rock and roll band since 2002, traveling all over the world for concerts, including the Bangor Waterfront the summer of 2014. It was a role he got after the founder of the band, Tom Scholz, saw Neal playing a gig at a bar at Sunday River and approached him about joining Boston.

"When he came up and he said, 'Hi, I'm Tom Scholz,' it was just like, OK. This is real and this is happening, and then my life got very, very different," said Neal.

His title with the band has also followed him into the classroom, when he takes on his other role as a full time history teacher at Windham High School. Students are always surprised to find out that the teacher at the front of the class is also a rock and roll fanatic. That's why many juniors and seniors signed up for his History of Rock and Roll class this spring.

"Really fun and you want to come to his class, just to be with him if anything," said senior Tegan Bradley. "He makes everything that you're doing so much better."

Jeff is currently rehearsing with Boston to get ready for their upcoming summer touring season. The history teacher's first concert with the band is scheduled for June 3rd at the Fallsview Casino Resort in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
