PORTLAND, Maine — The Portland Chamber Music Festival kicks off its 2024 season Thursday. More than twenty musicians who have played around the world will perform at a number of events through August 17.
If you’re not familiar with chamber music or have never seen a live performance of it, festival artistic director Melissa Reardon has a suggestion.
“I’d say first don’t knock it until you try it,” she told us.
“One of the things that’s really amazing about chamber music is the feeling of connection and intimacy of the music,” she says. “I think there’s a really visceral experience of the music when you get to hear it up close. I think there’s something really special about that.”
In addition to numerous performances, the festival will present talks and a master class. You’ll find a full list of events by clicking here.
