PORTLAND, Maine — Chris Brown and Lauren Pattenaude from Bull Moose stopped by to share their list of new releases this week.
Ringo Starr - "Crooked Boy" EP
Ringo's approach to his seventh decade as a professional musician is to release an EP every six months. He is back with Linda Perry (from 4 Non Blondes, writer/producer for Pink, Miley Cyrus, Dolly Parton, and Alicia Keys.) She brought in Nick Valensi from The Strokes to play guitar. I think he adds a cool energy to the first song, Gonna Need Someone, which you wouldn't expect on a Ringo Starr track.
La Luz – "News of the Universe"
A psychedelic daydream, dusk lullaby, and portrait of love and fear. After a breast cancer diagnosis just two years after her son was born, Shana Cleveland did what she does best; organized it into laid-back grooves with some big harmonies. La Luz remains unapologetically a lady who can and will jam.
Richard Thompson - "Ship To Shore"
When faced with a new Richard Thompson album, one always asks "Is it acoustic or electric?" Ship to Shore is an electric album, as vibrant as anything he released in the 1990s. Many of the tracks have a great roots rock bounce, even if lyrically he has found another thing to feel miserable about. It's easy to recommend this to fans of folk rock, especially British folk rock.
John Mulaney – "Baby J"
Just out last week on vinyl and CD it’s John Mulaney at the top of his game. Chaotic and joyful, devastatingly vulnerable. The writing is so fantastic and tightly put together listening to it on vinyl makes it even more of a fun ride. I couldn’t be more thrilled "Baby J" is back out on these streets.
