A new outdoor movie event is coming to Maine

Portland Trails is presenting short films Friday aimed at promoting outreach and inclusion.

PORTLAND, Maine — Portland Trails Film Night will take place Friday evening in an appropriate setting—not just outdoors, but right next to a trail. This is the first year for the event, which will feature eight short films, all of them about inclusion in outdoor recreation.

The films come from around the globe, provided with the help of the Maine Outdoor Film Festival and the World Trails Film Festival. The whole affair is intended to be casual and fun. There won’t be any seating (the event will be at Riverton Trolley Park in Portland), so people are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets along with snacks and non-alcoholic beverages. Fittingly, it’s carry-in, carry-out.

As for Portland Trails, it’s a nonprofit organization that oversees more than 70 miles of trails and green space. Its mission is “to transform Greater Portland into a more walkable, bikeable, sustainable, and equitable place for all.”

A donation of $10 is suggested, but organizers say if that’s a stretch then people can come for free. Bailey O’Brien with Portland Trails and Zak Klein with the World Trails Film Festival joined us on 207 with clips from three of the films and additional information about Film Night.
