Get in the Halloween spirit with these movie, book, and music recommendations

Here are four ideas to take your Halloween to the next level.

PORTLAND, Maine — The folks at Bull Moose never let an entertaining tradition go to waste. With that in mind, Chris Brown and Callie Lirakis stopped by to tell us about some new releases that will take your Halloween to a new level. Here are the selections and the comments Chris and Callie provided.

Dewmar Campfire Records - Sinister Sounds of Halloween Horror (LP)

A tape labeled "Scary Sounds '65" was found under the floorboards of an abandoned barn in rural Ohio. This record is made from that tape. It sounds like something a family might play out their window on Halloween night. Whoever made this record did a great job of making it sound like it was recorded in the early 1960s. It's super fun and a great update to the Halloween record you might have had when you were a kid.

Jordan Peele and John Joseph Adams, editors - Out There Screaming: An Anthology of New Black Horror (hardcover book)

For those who are searching for their next horror book comes the horror anthology "Out There Screaming." Jordan Peele has proven that he knows horror with films like "Us," "Get Out," and "Nope," but now he’s published a brand new anthology of horror stories from rising black authors that mixes real-world terror that haunts us with otherworldly scares in this fantastic collection of stories. "Out There Screaming" is a great way to find your new favorite author to keep an eye on and get in the mood for Halloween.

The Mist (4K UHD)

Chris and Brett reviewed "The Mist" when it was released on DVD in 2008. Does Chris still recommend it? The new 4K Collectors Edition includes 4 discs, bonus features, and the original black-and-white version as it was originally intended to be seen by director Frank Durabont ("The Green Mile," "The Shawshank Redemption"). Considered by many to be one of the best Stephen King film adaptations, "The Mist" is quintessential Stephen King as it takes place in a small Maine town that is overrun by a mysterious mist and the monsters it brings with it, but for the survivors trapped in the local grocery store, the horror is also inside as tension and paranoia mount.

The Bride of Frankenstein (4K UHD)

Another horror film on our list to get us in the mood for Halloween, "The Bride of Frankenstein" was recently released in a freshly remastered version. This classic horror flick is a part of the legendary Universal Monsters collection of films that was released between the 30s and 50s and features now classic horror makeup, beautiful set design, and a very human monster played by Boris Karloff.
