Maine radio host lands spot on national TV show

On this show, you don’t have to sing well as long as you can sell it.

PORTLAND, Maine — You may have heard that Lori Voornas, co-host of the WHOM morning radio show in Portland, appeared on a Fox primetime show called “I Can See Your Voice" last week. This does not come as much of a surprise because a) Lori is a ham and b) she is up for anything.

Here’s how the show works. In the opening fifteen minutes or so, six people lip-sync well-known songs. As the hour goes by, a contestant has to guess if the lip-syncers are in reality, good singers or bad ones.

Lori appeared as herself, a radio host from Maine, and she lip-synced Elvis Presley’s “Suspicious Minds," but of course gave no obvious clue as to whether she sings like Adele or like a cat whose tail just got stepped on by a 300-pound guy wearing soccer cleats.

It all raises so many questions. How did she get chosen for the primetime show? Did she practice endlessly to ensure that her voice was at its best—or worst? What was it like when she finally busted out on air to reveal her singing chops?

The best answers to these questions and more come from Lori herself, who after more than three decades on the radio knows how to tell an entertaining story. Watch our interview and clips from the show, and you will indeed see her voice.
