PORTLAND, Maine — For most of us, our eating and drinking habits change with the seasons. Iced tea in February? No, thank you. Hot chocolate in February? Absolutely.
With that in mind, Joe Ricchio—a private chef, food writer, and host of the Food Coma podcast and TV series—joined us on 207 to talk about hearty comfort food, which many of us crave when the days are short and the weather’s cold.
Ricchio came up with six dishes from six restaurants in Maine, a nice mix that encompasses soups to bagels to pasta to smoked chicken.
Watch our 207 conversation so you can see Joe, with his customary enthusiasm, discuss what he likes and why when he’s in the mood for comfort food. If you want to cut right to the chase, here’s his list:
- Rye cavatelli from Tipo in Portland
- Chicken pho from Saigon in Portland
- Night Market soup from Long Grain in Camden
- Super beef from George + Leon’s in Westbrook
- Smoked half chicken from Oak & Ember in Buxton
- Cranberry-anadama bagel with chili cream cheese from Rover Bagel in Biddeford
